Colorful Scissors

The structural editing phase in the book writing process is when an editor works with an author to resolve ‘big picture’ issues in their manuscript, including narrative structure, form, plot, and character. Its focus is on wider story elements.

COPYEDITING

Copyediting is the fine-tuning a manuscript. A copyedit will generally address grammatical or punctuation errors, incorrect facts, anomalies, inconsistencies, and typographical errors. The purpose of this stage of editing is to ensure that the language supports the author's intent.

PROOFREADING

Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process. To be sure your book is ready for publication (either print or digital), a proofreader will double-check everything including formatting and layout issues such as the wrong typeface in one of your chapter headings, or awkwardly spaced lines within the text. They’ll make sure that your book is free from errors and other issues that could spoil a reader’s enjoyment of your work.

GUIDED WRITING & FEEDBACK

The main idea behind the guided writing and feedback program is to get you writing! Whether you are just starting out, have done a lot of writing before and are feeling stuck, or have had a break from writing and are now looking for some prompts to get you started, the tailored prompts are there to help you get words on the page. The feedback provided will help guide you to areas you want to continue working on.

COACHING

The purpose of writing coaching depends a great deal on what stage of writing you’re up to and the intended outcomes will be clearly outlined in your Coaching Agreement. If you haven’t completed your first draft yet, we can work with you on getting it onto the page but if you’ve got a ‘messy first draft’ (sometimes called ‘draft zero’) and need some guidance about what to do now that you’re ready to draft your work, we can help with this too.

MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT

A Manuscript Assessment is an extremely valuable first overview of your manuscript by a professional editor. Your editor will read through the entire manuscript and provide thoughtful, in-depth feedback concerning elements such as plot, characterisation, structure, consistency, tone, and style.
